Management of United Television (UTV) says it will not be deterred by the recent intrusion of some NPP youth into its studios.
Reacting to the attack on its outfit and the attendant public discussions, the station condemned the actions of the irate youth as violating their fundamental human rights and freedoms as provided in the 1992 Constitution.
“We condemn this act of violence and vandalism as it violates our fundamental human rights and freedoms and the independence of the media as enshrined under Chapters 5 and 12, respectively, of the 1992 Constitution of our country. We are deeply concerned about this event, and we are diligently taking all security and legal measures to prevent the reoccurrence of this unfortunate incident,” UTV said in a statement on October 10, 2023.
It said that it is cooperating with the police to ensure those culpable are brought to justice.
“We would continue to collaborate with authorities to bring those responsible for this incident to justice,” the statement added.
The station also noted that the leadership of the NPP, including the General Secretary, had visited them to sympathize with them and condemn the actions of its members.
UTV assured employees of the network that it would put in place measures to ensure a non-recurrence of the event while expressing gratitude to various stakeholders for their support.
According to the station, it would not be deterred by the incident but would rather stick to the tenets of the media profession.
“We are committed to our values and principles as an independent media house, and we will not be deterred by unethical and disturbing activities. Our priority is to continue providing quality news and programs while ensuring the safety and security of all stakeholders. We will continue to maintain an impartial and non-biased editorial stance while providing a secure platform for diverse views and opinions to be expressed.”
