President of Ivory Coast, Alassane Ouattara, has rewarded players of the national team for winning the Africa Cup of Nations on home soil.

The Elephants went from the brink of getting eliminated to beating Nigeria in the final to win the trophy for the third time.

On Sunday, the hosts showed incredible fighting spirit, which has embodied their tournament, after coming from a goal down to beat the Super Eagles.

Sebastien Haller poked home the winner after meeting a cross from Simon Adingra, who had earlier served Franck Kessie with the leveller to cancel William Troost-Ekong’s opener.

President Ouattara has decided to gift each player 76,000 euros, while coach Emerse Fae receives 150,000 euros.

According to reports, each player and the coach will also receive a residential villa worth the same value.

Following Sunday’s victory, the players went on a trophy parade on Monday before later meeting fans at the Felix Houphouet Boigny stadium, as reported by the BBC.

This is the third time Ivory Coast has won the Africa Cup of Nations, having twice beaten Ghana in the final.

Earlier, players of the Ivorian national team crowned their AFCON trophy parade with a meeting with the fans at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium.

The AFCON heroes presented the trophy to thousands of supporters as celebrations continued late into the night in Abidjan.

Ivory Coast came from a goal down to beat Nigeria in the final on Sunday, with Haller netting a late winning goal for the Elephants.
