A vibrant throng of senior journalists, social influencers, and followers of Ghanaian football is expected to mass up this morning at the Obra Spot in Accra and walk in protest of the poor state of Ghana’s football.

Dubbed #SaveGhanaFootball, the protest is being led by renowned journalists including Saddick Adams, Nana Yaw Kesseh, Veronica Commey, Patrick Osei Agyeman (Countryman Songo), and Odiahenkan Kwame Yeboah.

Earlier this month, the journalists informed the Accra Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service of their planned protest, resulting in the police’s confirmation of the February 14 date.

According to one of the lead convenors, Saddick Adams, the march, which seeks, among other things, to demand accountability from football authorities towards the betterment of the game, will be a peaceful one.

Other issues being protested are the monetization of football, conflict of interest situations and inteference among senior officials, the absence of proper infrastructure, and the lack of commitment by the players.

Days before the protest, Saddick made a series of social media posts detailing how the cumulative actions and inactions of the Kurt Okraku-led Ghana Football Association and the National Sports Authority had adversely impacted the Black Stars and the Ghana Premier League in recent times.

At a press conference last week, the GFA stated that, upon reflection over the previous few days, it has learned its lessons and is committed to restoring the fortunes of football in the country.

Ghana shockingly exited the 2023 AFCON, securing only 2 points.

This is the third consecutive time the four-time AFCON winner has failed to reach the knockout stage of any international competition.
