Private legal practitioner and law lecturer Justice Abdulai has brought an action against the government over the appointment of Deputy IGP in charge of operations, COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno.
Earlier this month, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo appointed COP Yohuno for the position of Deputy IGP, sparking negative reactions from sections of the public who questioned the constitutionality of the president’s action.
Critics also questioned the timing of COP Yohuno’s appointment, a few months close to the December general elections.
In a writ filed at the Supreme Court against the Attorney General and Minister of Justice and the Ghana Police Service on Tuesday, 30th July, Justice Abdulai seeks, among other reliefs, a true and proper interpretation of relevant portions of the 1992 constitution, the Police Service Act, and the Police Service Regulations.
He is also seeking a declaration of the appointment of COP Yohuno as unconstitutional, null, and void while demanding an order restraining COP Yohuno from acting in the capacity of Deputy IGP, Operations.
