The Ministry of Interior has suspended the Private Security Organisation (PSO) licence of Kantanka Security Services Limited with immediate effect, following allegations involving the use of unapproved uniforms and the unlawful possession and use of firearms and ammunition by personnel of the company.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Interior on June 22, 2026, the decision follows preliminary investigations into an incident reported on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at Kwabenya in Accra, where personnel of the company were allegedly engaged in security operations involving the said breaches.
“The Ministry of the Interior has, with immediate effect, suspended the Private Security Organisation (PSO) operating licence for Kantanka Security Services Limited following reports of alleged use of unprescribed uniform, possession and use of firearms and ammunition by personnel of the company in the course of providing private security services,” the statement said.
The Ministry explained that preliminary findings pointed to possible violations of the Police Service (Private Security Organisations) Regulations, 1992 (L.I. 1571), which govern the operations of private security companies in Ghana.
“The decision was taken after preliminary investigations indicated possible violations of the Police Service (Private Security Organisations) Regulations, 1992 (L.I. 1571),” it added.
It further noted that the alleged use of unprescribed uniforms and unauthorised handling of firearms by private security personnel constituted a serious breach with implications for public safety and national security.
Following the suspension, the Ministry has directed Kantanka Security Services Limited to immediately cease all operations pending the outcome of ongoing investigations.
“Consequently, the Ministry has directed the company to immediately cease all operations forthwith pending the conclusion of investigations into the matter,” the statement indicated.
The directive also bars all institutions and individuals from engaging the services of the company until further notice.
“All institutions are advised to refrain from conducting business with Kantanka Security Services Limited pending the conclusion of investigations and further directives from the Ministry,” it stated.
The Ministry further instructed the company to cooperate fully with the Ghana Police Service and provide all necessary information to support a thorough investigation.
The Ministry said the suspension is a precautionary administrative measure aimed at safeguarding public safety while investigations continue.
It added that appropriate action will be taken upon completion of investigations in accordance with Ghana’s laws governing private security operations.
