Lawyer Sylvester Isang, a native of the Nandom Constituency, has declared his intention to contest the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries in the constituency.

Mr Isang, who was born and raised in Nandom, began his basic education there in 1986 at St. Paul’s Primary School before proceeding to St. Andrew’s Junior High School and Nandom Senior High School. He later travelled to Tamale, where he attended the Tamale College of Education and subsequently pursued his first degree.

In a press statement announcing his intention to contest, Lawyer Isang said his personal experiences had given him a deep understanding of the challenges confronting the people of Nandom.

“I have taken the pain to recount some of my past experiences to vindicate the fact that I understand Nandom peculiar problems and the challenges confronting Nandome having experienced some of these challenges myself which said challenges I try to address at my individual level on daily basis till date.

“In effect I appreciate the endemic problems of Nandom and having battled some of those challenges I can say without hesitation that I have solutions to some of the developmental challenges of Nandom and it is for the love of Nandom and the need for securing the needed joint efforts and in particular the Political Will to championing the developmental needs of Nandom that I hereby offer myself for the service of Nandom.”

He said over the years he had built strong social capital and networks across the political divide and within the NGO community, which he believes would enable him to effectively advocate for Nandom at various levels.

Lawyer Isang said his involvement in NPP politics dates back to 1994, when he was first issued a party membership card. Since then, he said, he had closely followed political developments in Nandom and consistently supported the NPP.

Within the party, he said he had contributed to its activities and served its leadership with commitment while patiently waiting for an opportunity to contest as a parliamentary candidate.

He also indicated that he had actively campaigned for the NPP and its parliamentary candidate in Nandom during the 2012, 2016, 2020 and 2024 general elections, in several instances using his personal resources.

According to him, his decision to seek the parliamentary candidacy is not driven by personal ambition or material gain, but by a desire to contribute to the development and wellbeing of the people of Nandom.

“I am not yearning to serve the people of Nandom for personal aggrandizement or gain. But I believe that life is worth living when you touch your neighbour, especially the most vulnerable in society. Life should not just be about yourself or your immediate family,” he said.

Mr Isang said he was offering himself for public service because he believed Nandom needed collective effort, strong advocacy and the political will to address its developmental challenges.
