The youth wing of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced plans to stage a major street protest later this month against what it describes as “state-sponsored harassment and abuse of power.”

The demonstration, dubbed the March Against State-Sponsored Harassment and Abuse of Power, is set for Tuesday, September 23, 2025. Organisers say the march will begin at 6:00 am from Obra Spot at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra, before proceeding along approved routes agreed with the police.

According to the NPP National Youth Wing, the protest aims to highlight what it sees as increasing intimidation of citizens and political activists. Youth leaders say they expect thousands of supporters to turn up, insisting the march will be peaceful.

Party insiders say some of its leading figures, including Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe Abronye, social media activists, and other loyalists, have faced what they describe as politically motivated actions by authorities.
