A member of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team, Sammi Awuku, has said that no candidate has engaged in vote-buying to the best of his knowledge.
According to him, party executives in some regions contributed money and gave it to some delegates to help them transport themselves to and from the election centres, which he believes does not contribute to vote buying.
Sammi Awuku contended that even if money was doled out, it was not up to GHC 500 cedis per head, as has been reported in the media.
“I have heard the same, but I am not sure that even if somebody pays another person some money, it will not exceed GHC 500 Ghana cedis, which will not be enough for vote buying, to influence a person to vote for a candidate he or she does not prefer,” he stressed.
Responding to questions posed by the media at the NPP’s headquarters as the party seeks a new leader, Mr. Awuku urged delegates to look for a person who would be marketable in the run-up to the 2024 elections.
The former NPP National Youth Organiser added that while aspirants went on tour and engaged the delegates, they gave them gifts in diverse ways that were aimed at facilitating their commute to their respective polling stations to cast their votes, which according to him does not characterise vote-buying.
