The Department of Fashion Design and Technology of the Tamale Technical University (TaTU) has held its 7th annual Exhibition and Fashion Show dubbed “Creating an Ecosystem for the Youth in the Fashion Industry.”
It’s the 7th annual event designed to showcase the creative works of the final-year students of the Fashion Design and Technology Department of the University through an exhibition and fashion show.
Final-year students participated in this year’s show. Some of the works that were on display at the exhibition included batik tie and dye, ceramic products, a variety of local designs, and paintings, among others.
The Dean of the Department of Fashion and Technology, Dr. Joan Akweley Adotey, who officially opened the two-day exhibition show, underscored the socio-economic prospects of the fashion design and technology programme and encouraged the students to fully apply themselves to that area of study.
Hon. Abass Ridwan Dauda, CEO of Khard Global Fashion, urged the students to grab the opportunity of studying the programme in fashion design as they have already secured their jobs and can be their own employers.
He advised the students to always have the attitude of saving for financial support and to desist from immoral behavior and activities that may harm their health.
The programme was crowned with a well-patronized fashion show held at the GNAT Hall, which saw the final-year fashion students display their dexterity in the design and sewing of various types of dresses.
They included occasional wear, beach wear, cocktail party wear, casual wear, bridal gowns, evening wear, ladies office wear, dinner wear, Islamic ladies wear, and Berwaa dance costumes, among many others.
While interacting with the students, the school requested support and funding from the government and other stakeholders to resource the department with the relevant equipment.
