The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has affirmed its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of Ghana’s 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections by leveraging its anti-corruption mandate to prevent, control, and address electoral corruption, fraud, and other unfair practices.
In a statement issued on December 2, 2024, the Special Prosecutor, Mr. Kissi Agyebeng, cautioned electoral officers responsible for vote counting, collation, transmission, and publication of election results to adhere strictly to the law.
He emphasised that falsifying vote accounts or providing false returns constitutes a serious offence with severe consequences.
The OSP also reminded the public that electoral corruption in any form is prohibited by law. Acts such as vote buying, vote selling, voter impersonation, threats or acts of violence, and intimidation during the electoral process are considered grave offences.
“The Office is alive to its mandate and will promptly address any such occurrences brought to its notice,” the statement assured, reiterating the OSP’s readiness to uphold justice and ensure a fair and transparent election process.
The OSP urged all stakeholders to respect the law and work towards a peaceful and credible electoral outcome.
The statement further encouraged members of the public to report any instances of corruption or misconduct during the elections to the appropriate authorities.
