Deputy Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Asokwa, Patricia Appiagyei, has denied receiving GH¢70,000 or any other payment in connection with the vetting of ministerial and Supreme Court nominees.

In a statement dated September 4, 2026, Hon. Appiagyei described a memorandum circulating in the media, purportedly originating from her office and alleging that she received and later returned GH¢70,000, as “fake”.

“I did not write, authorise, or circulate this document. It is fake and should be disregarded by all,” she stated.

The alleged memorandum reportedly purported to be addressed to the Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, and linked the supposed payment to Hon. Appiagyei’s role on Parliament’s Appointments Committee.

The Asokwa MP categorically denied the allegation, saying she had not received any money from any person in connection with the vetting of ministerial or Supreme Court nominees.

“I state expressly and without qualification that I did not receive any payment of GH¢70,000, or any other sum, from any person in connection with the vetting of ministerial or Supreme Court nominees, or in connection with my duties as a member of the Appointments Committee,” she said.

According to her, because she did not receive such a payment, she had no reason to return any money, contrary to the claim contained in the circulating document.

Hon. Appiagyei further maintained that she had consistently performed her duties on the Appointments Committee with integrity, including during the recent vetting exercise.

She disclosed that she was attending the funeral of a close friend when her attention was first drawn to what she described as fake news originating from her office.

The MP said she initially assumed that the “FAKE” stamp she had authorised to be placed on the document would be sufficient to clarify its status, but the document subsequently gained prominence in the media.

Describing the fabricated document as a serious matter, Hon. Appiagyei said she was seeking legal advice on the appropriate steps to take once the source of the document was established.

“I reserve all my rights in that regard, including against any person found responsible for the fabrication or knowing circulation of the document,” she stated.

She also accused unidentified individuals of attempting to create divisions within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), insisting that such efforts would not succeed.

“It is clear to me that some faceless individuals are up to some mischief to sow seeds of discord in our Caucus but this will fail,” she said.

Hon. Appiagyei called on members and supporters of the NPP, as well as Ghanaians, to remain united, expressing confidence that the party would rally behind its flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, ahead of the 2028 elections.
