The Ghana Police Service has arrested ten people for allegedly creating fake online food delivery platforms to defraud unsuspecting customers.
In a statement issued by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on Monday, October 13, 2025, the Police said the arrests were made following a targeted intelligence-led operation by the Cybercrime Unit.
The first six suspects — identified as Wonder Sakpiti, Sedinam Amaglo, Godsway Dunyo, Angela Agblemekpe, Mathew Aheto, and Fafali Amoah — were picked up on October 1 at Sogakope.
According to the statement, the operation followed sustained intelligence that linked the suspects to a fraudulent scheme using cloned online platforms of popular food outlets.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had created fake websites and social media pages impersonating well-known food brands such as Papaye, Pizzaman, KFC, and Mawarko,” the CID said.
Victims who placed orders through these fake platforms were reportedly directed to make advance payments via mobile money but never received their food.
Police said in some cases, the suspects allegedly gained unauthorised access to victims’ mobile money wallets and bank accounts “under the guise of assisting them with payments” and later withdrew funds.
Further investigations led to the arrest of four additional suspects, Elijah Sotama Etse, alias Pop Smoke (described as the syndicate leader), Elliot Sotama Atsu, Jethro Atsu, and Obed Selasi Agboli, at their hideout in Haatso, Accra, on October 12.
Police retrieved twelve mobile phones and other digital devices believed to have been used in the fraudulent activities. The devices are currently undergoing forensic examination.
“All ten suspects are in custody and will be put before court today, Monday, 13th October 2025,” said Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, CID Public Relations Officer.
The Police urged anyone who may have fallen victim to the scam to report to the nearest police station to assist with investigations.
