The Electricity Company of Ghana has reported that the country now has a stable national grid.
ECG’s declaration comes after several complaints from the public and civil society about power outages, with some calling on the company to release a power rationing plan to aid their activities.
The opposition NDC has also chastised the government for refusing to admit its inability to solve the current power challenges, popularly known as “Dumsor.”
However, the government and the ECG have refuted such claims, arguing that the country’s power challenges are temporary and will be resolved sooner than expected.
The announcement also comes after the Energy Minister, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, responding to a question by a journalist on the need for a timetable, asked them to produce their own timetable, drawing wide public criticism.
In the public statement announcing the restoration of the national grid on Friday, March 29, 2024, the ECG stated as follows:
“The Electricity Company of Ghana wishes to inform our cherished customers and the general public that we have a stable national power supply (a stable national grid).”
The company further stated that “every customer who is currently experiencing power outages is due to a localised fault,” calling on such customers to reach out to their customer support centre for assistance.
Although the power distributor has greatly improved revenue generation, it is still plagued with a plethora of issues, including power theft and debt.
