The executive leadership of the official Road Transport Operators has issued a joint directive advising the general public to completely disregard widespread media reports claiming a 20 percent upward adjustment in public transport fares, which was reportedly scheduled to take effect tomorrow, June 2, 2026.
In an official press release issued on Monday, the leadership explicitly stated that they have not engaged the Ministry of Transport in any regulatory consultations regarding a fare increase.
They declared the unilateral announcement by an unapproved faction as illegal, highlighting that it bypassed the formal fare adjustment protocols and procedures mutually agreed upon between the Ministry of Transport and accredited transport operators.
Condemning the unauthorized development, the operators requested the general public to treat the publication with contempt.
“Accordingly, all road transport operators, unions, associations, drivers, vehicle owners, loading point managers, and allied stakeholders are hereby requested to maintain the existing approved fares and to refrain from implementing any unilateral fare adjustments until further notice,” the leadership directed in the joint statement.
The regulatory bodies assured commuters and transport personnel that they are actively monitoring the upcoming operational pricing window.
They noted that should a legitimate technical requirement for a fare review arise, the public will be formally and properly notified through established regulatory channels.
The statement concluded by emphasizing a commitment to balancing industrial realities, reiterating that the leadership remains dedicated to prioritizing the mutual interests and safeguarding the welfare of both transport operators and daily commuters nationwide.
