The leadership of the NPP has urged its supporters to remain calm on the back of the resignation of its leading member, Alan Kyerematen, on Monday.
Mr. Kyerematen announced his resignation from the party for reasons of unfair treatment meted out to him by leading executives of the NPP over the years in his attempts to run as presidential candidates.
He also announced his decision to stand as an independent candidate for the 2024 elections, calling on supporters of the NPP and NDC to support his newly introduced Movement for Change.
However, responding to Kyerematen’s announcement, the NPP has described the decision as unfortunate.
It called on party loyalists to stay calm as they take steps to respond to the former flagbearer’s exit on Tuesday, September 26, 2023.
“The Party Leadership is by this medium urging the rank and file of our great party to remain calm and await an official address by the Party to Mr. Kyerematen’s resignation and 14.00pm on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at the Party Headquarters.
This will be the second time Alan Kyerematen has left the party. In 2008, he quit the party in the throes of the presidential primaries, attributing it to favouritism towards President Nana Akufo Addo, who was also a contestant at the time.
