Former NPP flagbearer aspirant Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen has resigned as a member of the party, effective September 25, 2023.
Announcing his resignation in a press conference on Tuesday, Kyerematen told the media and followers that the processes that led to his exit from the party in 2008 are being replicated, hence his decision to withdraw.
According to him, he will stand for the presidential election in the 2024 elections as an independent candidate.
“I wish to use this platform to announce that I am honorably resigning with immediate effect from the New Patriotic Party to contest for the high office of the President of the Republic of Ghana in the 2024 general elections as an independent presidential candidate,”, Mr. Kyerematen stated.
He disclosed that he will be chartering a new “Movement for Change” to deliver his “Great Transformation Programme,” or GTP, which will prominently feature the youth.
Mr. Kyerematen also detailed the background of his positions, roles, and contributions to the party since 1992.
He withdrew his candidacy as NPP flagbearer after a poor run in the first round of the NPP’s presidential primaries in August, pulling votes out of 923.
He attributed his withdrawal to a “skewed” process in favor of “one candidate”, presumably the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The Party, in a response, said it will look into the allegations made by Kyerematen.
