The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has declared it will not participate in a rerun of the parliamentary election in the Ablekuma North Constituency, rejecting a decision by the Electoral Commission (EC) to hold fresh polls in 19 of the 281 polling stations.
Addressing a press conference at the party’s Ablekuma North office, NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua said the party had “undeniable and overwhelming evidence” that it won the December 7, 2024 election.
“Our engagement with you this morning is very simple — that we have our evidence, undeniable evidence, overwhelming evidence that we won the Ablekuma North parliamentary elections,” Kodua told reporters. “Under no circumstances would we be intimidated or coerced to go for a rerun. We would not go for any rerun.”
The EC, in a letter dated July 1 and followed by a press statement on July 2, announced a rerun in 19 polling stations scheduled for July 11, citing the lack of verification from presiding officers on pink sheets submitted by the NPP.
Kodua, however, insisted that the elections were conducted and concluded lawfully in all 281 polling stations and accused the EC of acting in defiance of a High Court order directing it to collate the results and declare the winner.
“We have won the elections,” he stressed, adding that the party’s National Executive Committee had resolved to oppose any form of rerun.
