The Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has said that the District Assembly elections have become an integral part of the country’s elections.
He said that as a result of this, the Ghana Police Service has collaborated with the other security agencies to ensure that firm measures are put in place to make the elections successful and peaceful.
Dr. Dampare made this disclosure at the Police Headquarters in Accra during a meeting with heads of other security agencies to plan to ensure free, fair, and peaceful elections in the up-coming District Assembly elections, which is scheduled for December 19, 2023.
“With the upcoming District Assembly elections across the country, we’ve decided, in consultation with my big brothers, who are the heads of the various security agencies, to ensure that we put in place the election security task force to operationalize and firm up the security arrangements for the up coming District Assembly elections,” he said.
Dr. Dampare added that he is very committed to the wellbeing of security personnel in their quest to protect lives and property.
He disclosed that, due to his quick intervention, police officers who got injured in Donkorkrom in the Eastern Region of Ghana were picked up and catered for until they fully recovered.
“In a recent incident, after speaking to you for about two minutes, I realised there were two helicopters in the air going to Donkor Krom to rescue police people who had gotten injured,” he stressed.
Dr. Dampare also ceased the opportunity to thank the Chief of Defence Staff, Vice Admiral Seth Amoama, who he said has been of great help to his career as an IGP and to the entire police service.
“And also, before I sit down, let me please thank the Chief of Defence Staff, who has been a big brother for many years before I assumed this position. He has been an anchor of support for myself and my team, and at any point in time, with all the issues we’ve been working on together, he even goes beyond that and supports us with unique support from the welfare perspective of our personnel,” he added.
He said it is as a result of the kindness and support of the Chief of Defence Staff that their welfare system is now okay to the extent that they are able to get quick responses to emergency cases.
