Eleven (11) out of the sixteen (16) members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the People’s National Convention (PNC) have resigned to form a new political party named the People’s National Party (PNP).
This action is a reaction to a recent April 8 High Court decision that maintained the suspension of PNC General Secretary Janet Asana Nabila and restored David Apasera to the position of party leader.
Sulemana Seidu, the PNP’s interim General Secretary, voiced serious reservations about the court’s ruling on Wednesday, April 17, at a news conference in Accra, citing concerns about the honesty and credibility of the leadership of the PNC.
“It is with great sadness that we announce our decision to leave the People’s National Convention (PNC) and form our own party, the People’s National Party (PNP). The decision to depart from the PNC comes as a result of the fact that we disagree with the ruling of the high court of April 8, 2024, reinstating individuals whom we believe were rightfully dismissed from leadership positions due to financial malfeasance and misconduct,” Sulemana Seidu said.
“We, the members of the National Executive Committee, representing 11 out of 16 regions, disagree with the ruling. We cannot, in good conscience, allow individuals lacking integrity and credibility to govern our party, especially when the legacy of our founder, Dr. Hilla Limann, is one of sacrifice without blemish,” he furthered.
Sulemana emphasised the need for the party to present itself as a credible one in the run-up to the December general elections while ensuring the preservation of its founder’s legacy.
The PNP, accordingly, named Janet Nabila as its interim National Chairman.
Other interim executives appointed by the new party include Francis Oppong as Vice Chairman, Sulemana Seidu as General Secretary, Abdul Kadri Issah as Deputy Secretary, Francis Daasu as National Organiser, Faustina Anane as Deputy Organiser, Jessica Aputare as Treasurer, Zakaria Mohammed as Deputy Treasurer, Patience Lamisi Adams as National Women’s Organiser, Sandra Adepa as Deputy Women’s Organiser, Muniru S. Mohammed as National Youth Organiser, Bright Foto as Deputy Youth Organiser, and Samuel Ayesu as Communication Secretary.
