2024 Elections: NPP announces restructuring plans following defeat

The National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Stephen Ayesu Ntim, has outlined the party’s intention to initiate a comprehensive restructuring effort following their loss in the recent general elections.

Speaking at the party’s headquarters in Accra on Monday, December 23, 2024, Ntim acknowledged the widespread disappointment felt within the party. He revealed that plans are in motion to establish an election review committee in January 2025 to evaluate the factors that led to the party’s defeat.

“The party will, in the month of January 2025, set up an effective and objective election review committee to undertake a post-mortem into the outcome of the election. The committee will engage all party stakeholders and the general public on the factors and circumstances leading to our defeat,” he explained.

Ntim expressed optimism that the review process will provide an avenue for party members to share their views and recommend necessary reforms to drive the party’s progress.

“We have a firm belief that the work of the election review committee will enable our people to express their concerns and to bring out suggestions and reforms, changes, and other critical issues necessary to restructuring our party,” he stated.

A major focus of the restructuring process will be on potential constitutional amendments and adjustments to the party’s internal decision-making procedures. Ntim highlighted the importance of revisiting how presidential and parliamentary candidates, as well as party executives, are selected.

Despite the electoral setback, Ntim underscored the NPP’s resilience and expressed confidence in the party’s ability to regroup and prepare for future electoral battles.

“Indeed, this is a difficult time for us as a party. But we are resilient people. We must and we will rise again from this defeat. We will be reorganising our steps for the battles of tomorrow,” he declared.

He encouraged all members to stay engaged and take an active role in the restructuring process. Ntim reinforced the importance of unity and collaboration to rejuvenate the party and restore its strength.
