2024 Elections: Odds favour NDC but Bawumia might cause an upset – Manasseh Awuni

The popular journalist is of the opinion that Former President John Mahama is ahead of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia

The editor-in-chief at the Fourth Estate News Portal, Manasseh Azure Awuni, has predicted that the NDC might win in the upcoming general election if the socio-economic situation in the country stays the same.

In a Twitter post on Wednesday, he argued that the NPP has a better chance of winning in the 2024 elections on a Bawumia ticket as compared with the other contestants, arguing that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia might cause an upset in favor of the ruling party if he wins his party’s primaries.

“The grounds are fertile for an NDC victory in 2024. However, if Dr. Bawumia wins the NPP primaries, some important dynamics will change, and the NDC must work extra hard to win”, the renowned journalist stated.

He, however, cautioned the NDC against any form of complacency, as this might cost them.

“The odds will still favor the NDC, but any form of complacency will result in an upset.”

The NPP would be seeking to elect a flagbearer for the 2024 elections by November 4, 2023, although a super election will be held in August to slash the number of aspirants from 10 to 5.

The two leading candidates, Dr. Bawumia and Alan Kyerematen, have been visiting delegates across the country and sharing their respective visions with them.

Research outfit Global InfoAnalytics believes it will be difficult for the NPP to “break the 8,” according to its nationwide and NPP-specific polls conducted earlier this month.

The polls also found that Dr. Bawumia is not likely to annex a clear, first-round victory in the NPP’s presidential primaries and would need the support of the other candidates if he had to win.
