Special voting is currently ongoing at polling stations across 14 of Ghana’s 16 regions, marking a critical step in preparations for the December 7 general elections.
Voting in the Eastern and Western Regions has been rescheduled to Thursday, December 5, following an Electoral Commission (EC) directive to recall and reprint ballot papers after a breach of security seals was reported.
This exercise is tailored for electoral officials, security personnel, and media representatives who will be on duty during the general elections. It allows them to cast their votes in advance while ensuring their availability to fulfil their roles on election day.
The EC has revealed that approximately 131,478 individuals from the total registered electorate of 18,741,159 are expected to participate in the special voting exercise today, December 2.
Voting began at 7:00 a.m. and will end at 5:00 p.m. at designated polling centres. Eligible voters are required to present valid identification to cast their ballots.
A Sikaman Times team visited polling stations, including Madina No. 3 School, Asylum Down Roundabout, Adabraka L/A Primary School, and Bawalashie Presby School Park, and observed a generally peaceful and orderly voting process.
However, at some polling stations, the exercise has been tainted by allegations and counter-allegations of inducement of voters by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
