President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has extended his congratulations to President-elect John Dramani Mahama following his victory in the 2024 presidential election.

The Electoral Commission, chaired by Jean Mensa, officially declared Mr. Mahama the winner on the evening of December 9, 2024.

In a phone call to the President-elect, President Akufo-Addo acknowledged the decisive nature of the win and expressed his commitment to a smooth transfer of power, scheduled for January 7, 2025.

He emphasised, “I look forward to working with the President-elect and his team to ensure a seamless transition.”

President Akufo-Addo also commended the Electoral Commission and the Ghanaian people for conducting a peaceful and credible election.

He praised the active participation of all stakeholders, which he said reflects the enduring strength of Ghana’s democracy.

Recognising the importance of unity, President Akufo-Addo called on Ghanaians to come together to consolidate the country’s democratic gains. “Let us work collectively to strengthen democracy and the rule of law in our nation,” he urged.

As part of efforts to ensure a collaborative transition, the President has invited Mr. Mahama to a meeting on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at Jubilee House.

The meeting will kickstart the transition process, underscoring Ghana’s commitment to good governance and peaceful transitions.

The President concluded by reiterating his dedication to upholding the principles of democracy and peaceful governance, saying, “May God continue to bless our homeland Ghana and make her great and strong.”
