His Excellency, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has pledged Ghana’s commitment to the global community to expand the country’s share of renewable energy in the energy mix.
President Akufo-Addo explained that the share of renewable energy in the energy mix will continue to expand with other clean energy sources in order to meet the country’s energy needs.
He stressed that it has become relevant for energy transition to be a global responsibility due to the global energy crisis, which emanated from the Russia-Ukraine war and is affecting climate change.
In his address at the “High-Level Event” series in Egypt, he suggested that it has become crucial for the government to establish plans and strategies towards the formation of a net-zero energy sector, as Ghana has become a trademark of the Paris Agreement and other international conventions.
“Our updated Nationally Determined Contributions, under the Paris Agreement, affirm the country’s resolve to address the impacts of climate change and build a resilient economy for our people.”
Ghana’s position on energy transition is to continue the responsible exploitation of our natural resources for our own development and transition. The Government of Ghana is mindful of the actions of the developed countries in relation to the energy transition and their effects on us,” he asserted.
For this reason, he specified that it is necessary for the government of Ghana to develop an Energy Transition Framework that would guide the country as the entire world moved towards realizing net zero.
