The convoy of President Nana Akufo-Addo was reportedly involved in a fatal accident on Sunday at Bunso Junction in the Eastern Region.
Although the details of the incident are sketchy, the convoy, which was moving at top speed en route to Accra, was allegedly crossed by a KIA truck, causing the accident.
In a statement confirming the accident, Director of Communications at the President, Eugene Arhin, said the President is “safe and unharmed” and has been retransported via a military aircraft to Accra.
“The unfortunate incident occurred while the convoy was on its way back from Kumasi, after accompanying the President to Kumasi for a series of events this weekend.”
However, one of the drivers on the convoy, Kwesi Atta, has died, according to the statement.
Security aides and other escorts who have suffered varying degrees of injury and who have received initial treatment at the Suhum Government Hospital have been dispatched to the University of Ghana Medical Centre for further examination and treatment.
Below is the statement from the Presidency.
