Vice President and key contender for the New Patriotic Party flagbearership  position, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, will submit his nomination forms today, Friday, at the party’s headquarters in Asylum Down.

According to The Sikaman Times sources, heavy security has been deployed at the party headoffice and its adjoining areas since 6.30 a.m. ahead of the filing exercise, which is scheduled to be done at 11 a.m.

Some party supporters wearing souvenirs of the vice President could also be spotted in the area.

In addition, posters of the Vice President reading “It is possible” could be seen from vantage points.

Dr. Bawumia will be facing stiff opposition from former Minister of Trade Alan Kyerematen and the MP for the Assin Central constituency, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.

Other people vying for the flagbearer slot include Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, the immediate past Minister of Food and Agriculture, and Kwabena Adjei Agyapong, a former General Secretary of the Party.

The party earlier announced that it will be holding a Special Delegates Congress on August 26 to prune the number of candidates, which so far stands at ten (10), to five (5).

The party noted further that it will hold another contest for the five candidates on December 4, and the winner will lead the party in the 2024 general elections.
