The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has stated that it has the authority to arrest suspects in corruption-related matters without a warrant.
In a terse tweet on Thursday, the OSP noted as follows:
“The general public is advised that, in exercise of its police powers, the Office of the Special Prosecutor can arrest without a warrant any person it reasonably suspects of having committed corruption or corruption-related offenses.”

The OSP has been in the news lately for the threatened arrests of the chairman and secretary of the defunct Inter-Minsterial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), established by President Akufo-Addo to counter galamsey operations in the country.
Earlier on Thursday, June 15, the Human Rights Division of the High Court in Accra, presided over by Justice Nicholas Abodakpi, placed a 10-day interim injunction on the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) from arresting Charles Bissue, the secretary to the IMCIM.
The court also restrained the OSP and his assigns from executing an arrest warrant against Mr. Bissue, publishing a notice declaring him wanted, and applying for a further warrant of arrest within the 10-day period.
The hearing of the substantive case has been moved to June 22, 2023.
