The governing New Patriotic Party is set to hold its national elections commencing Friday, July 15, 2022 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Sikaman Times can report that party sympathisers and event coordinators are putting finishing touches to the preparations as at Friday morning. The Accra Sports stadium has also been decked with party paraphernalia. Delegates from across the country are expected to take part in today’s 3-day elections, which will end on Sunday.

Media houses could also be seen mounting broadcast equipment, readying themselves for the much anticipated elections.

Communications Director of the party, Yaw Buabeng Asamoah, who was at the venue, told the press that all the necessary arrangements have been made for the elections, including accommodation for delegates who will come from other regions.

In total, 46 candidates are expected to run for various positions. This excludes two famous aspirants, Joseph Ayikoi Otoo and Charles Onuawonto Bissue, who were vying for the positions of National Chairperson and General Secretary, respectively, but have withdrawn for personal reasons.

Positions to be contested are National Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, General Secretary, Organiser, Youth Organiser, Treasurer, Women’s Organiser, and Nasara Coordinator.

The aspirants for the Chairperson position are: Gifty Asantewa Ayeh, Sammy Crabbe, Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Ekumfi, Akwasi Osei-Adjei, Stephen Ayensu Ntim, Stephen Asamoah-Boateng, and Kwabena Abankwa-Yeboah.

The aspirants for the General Secretary position are: John Boadu, Iddrisu Musah, Ramseyer Ahmed, Agyeman-Prempeh, Frederick Opare Ansah, and Justin Kodua Frimpong.

Political watchers argue that the chairperson position is expected to be a straight fight between Stephen Asamoah Boateng, popularly known as Asabee, and Stephen Ayesu Ntim. On the other hand, the General Secretary position shapes out to be a close contest between the incumbent, John Boadu, and Lawyer Justin Kodua.
