The beleaguered Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, has resigned.
She tendered her resignation to President Nana Akufo Addo today, July 22, 2023, indicating that she doesn’t want the issue at stake to be an impediment to the business of government.
“It’s been such a great privilege to have been given the opportunity to serve in your government, and an even greater honor to have worked to try and bring your vision for our country into fruition,” she stated in the letter.
She stressed that the figures being bandied around in the media in the theft case do not reflect what she and her husband filed with the police.
“I can state emphatically that those figures do not represent correctly what my husband and I reported to the Police”.
She, however, pledged to cooperate with the relevant investigative bodies on the issue and expressed confidence in coming out clear of all accusations that have dominated the public space.
“I intend to cooperate fully with all state agencies to enable them to fully establish the facts. I have no doubt whatsoever that at the end of the processes, it will be fully established that I have conducted myself with integrity during my period in public service, and I will be fully exonerated from all the allegations that have filled the public domain in the past 24 hours.”
Hon. Dapaah’s resignation comes at a time when civil society and sections of the public demanded that she step aside or be dismissed by the president for an investigation to be conducted into allegedly hoarding such huge sums of money at home.
Yesterday, she noted in a statement that the reports were inconsistent and that she would release detailed information on the theft case in the coming days.
The Chronicle of Friday published a story to the effect that some $1 million, €300,000, and other personal valuables have been stolen by two former househelps of the Minister and husband in their Abelemkpe residence.
