SEC flags “Mekanism” as illegal and fraudulent investment scheme

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of Ghana has officially declared Mekanism Marketing Ltd, also known as “Mekanism,” an illegal investment scheme, warning that its operations are not licensed or authorized in the country.

In a public notice issued on February 16, 2026, the regulator said it aims to intervene before more investors lose money to promises it described as “unrealistic.”

The SEC made clear the company’s legal standing, stating: “The SEC states unequivocally that Mekanism Marketing Ltd is NOT licensed, authorized, or approved to operate in Ghana’s capital market. Accordingly, any investment activity promoted by this entity constitutes an unauthorized and illegal capital market activity.” The Commission further advised the public to “exercise extreme caution and desist from investing in any product or scheme promoted by this entity.”

SEC investigations revealed that Mekanism uses a digital-first approach, mainly through social media, to solicit deposits in exchange for fixed daily returns—typical of unsustainable financial structures.

The scheme reportedly requires participants to complete vague tasks labeled “Job 1” to “Job 10.” On this, the SEC noted: “The entity… requires participants to undertake vague and unspecified activities labelled ‘Job 1’ to ‘Job 10’ as a basis for earning daily, monthly, or annual income. The SEC considers these promised returns to be unrealistic, unsustainable, and bear features of a fraudulent scheme designed to lure unsuspecting members of the public.”

The commission noted that operating as a market operator without a valid license is a criminal offense under Section 109 of Act 929. It further stated that it is “collaborating with relevant law enforcement agencies to identify and take appropriate action against the people behind this suspected scheme.”

SEC urged investors to verify the status of any firm before committing funds, whiles encouraging those who have interacted with Mekanism to contact the SEC via the toll-free line (0800 100065) or email info@sec.gov.gh.
