The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department has confirmed that delayed allowances owed to education sector workers have been paid together with their December 2025 salaries, easing weeks of concern among affected staff.

According to the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD), the payments were processed on Tuesday, 16 December, two days ahead of the 18 December timeline the department had communicated last month.

The allowances form part of two categories within the education sector that were originally scheduled for payment in November 2025 but were deferred because of what the department described as a technical challenge in the payroll processing system.

At the time, the CAGD said the temporary suspension was intended to ensure that November salaries for all government of Ghana workers were paid without disruption.

In explaining the decision, the department noted that continuing with the allowance processing could have affected the wider public sector payroll, prompting the rescheduling of the payments to December.

Following the completion of the payments, the CAGD has expressed regret over the inconvenience caused by the delay and assured education sector workers that measures are being put in place to strengthen payroll systems and avoid a recurrence.

It also thanked affected staff for their patience and cooperation during the period of uncertainty.
