Medicare Foundation has donated essential medical supplies to the Maase Health Centre in Akyem Maase, Eastern Region, as part of an ongoing initiative to extend medical assistance across Ghana.
This effort builds on previous donations made to the Madina and Adabraka Polyclinics in Accra and follows a recent health fair and blood donation drive in the capital.
At a brief ceremony marking the donation, Naana Hagan-Cherry, Founder and CEO of Medicare Foundation, expressed her gratitude to the traditional leaders of Akyem Maase and the entire community for their support and thorough preparations for the event.
“I want to thank Nana. When we came, they did a lot of preparations before we came. It is evident—you can see it. If you go to a place where adequate preparations have not been put in place, you can see it. But you can also see that preparations were done in terms of mobilising people. We want to thank everyone, particularly Maasehene Osabarima Adu Asare Bosompem III, Maasehemaa Nana Obenewaa Oforiwaa Obimpeh, and all those whose names we cannot mention,” said Naana.
“We hope to receive the same kind of support and even more during future visits,” she added.
Naana emphasized the importance of this collaboration, noting that a needs assessment was conducted to ensure that high-demand items—including nebulisers, blood pressure monitors, glucometers, urinalysis tests, and thermometers—were provided to the health centre. She assured the community of the foundation’s ongoing commitment to support, stating, “We are hoping to review the list once more when we go back and see how we can support.”
Osabarima Adu Asare Bosompem III, who is the Akyem Maasehene, extended his gratitude to Medicare Foundation, acknowledging the value of their contribution to the community’s healthcare needs.
He encouraged other citizens of Akyem Maase, particularly those living abroad, to emulate this act of generosity and contribute to the town’s development.
Sharing hopes for future initiatives, the Maasehene remarked, “This donation marks the first step toward establishing a modern health centre on a plot of land adjacent to the existing facility.”
A physician assistant at Maase Health Centre, Abdul-Wadood Khalid, while expressing gratitude to the foundation, shared optimism that this initial support would attract further assistance to address the facility’s current challenges.
In partnership with Visionary Norman Foundation, the visit also provided critical healthcare services to over 200 residents, who benefitted from screenings for various conditions, including blood pressure, blood sugar, vision, breast cancer, and sickle cell awareness.
