The Electoral Commission has published a detailed summary of certified voter data for the December 7, 2024, general elections, reinforcing its commitment to transparency and accountability.

According to the Deputy Chairman for Operations at the EC, Mr. Samuel Tettey, a total of 18,640,811 registered voters with biometric data will participate in the election. The number of Special Voters stands at 131,478, while 1,870 voters lack biometric data due to data corruption or other issues. The overall valid voter count for the December 7 election is 18,774,159. Additional categories include 33,352 voters on the exception list, 26,569 on the multiple list, 2,141 on the proxy list, 310,579 transferred voters, and 441,173 absent voters.

In a press statement, the EC clarified the definitions of each category:

  • Biometric Voters: individuals who will be biometrically verified on Election Day.
  • Special Voters: These include security agencies, media personnel, and EC officials who, by law, vote ahead of Election Day to facilitate their duties.
  • Voters without Biometric Data: Registered voters whose biometric records were corrupted; they will undergo manual verification.

Mr. Tettey further explained, “The total number of absent voters should equal the sum of special voters plus transferred voters. However, some polling stations were administratively closed, either due to insufficient voter numbers or at the request of local communities. Voters from these stations were transferred to nearby polling stations.”

He added that since no registers were generated for the closed stations, no absent voter list was created, resulting in 884 voters being excluded from the absent voter count.

“Records for these excluded voters, including details of their movement, are securely maintained within the EC’s voter management system to ensure complete accountability,” Mr. Tettey confirmed.
