The Economic and Organised Crimes Office (EOCO), in partnership with the Ghana Education Service (GES), has launched a nationwide essay writing competition to raise awareness about key issues affecting society, including human trafficking, cybercrime, and money laundering.

The competition is open to students from Basic School through Senior High School, with tailored topics for each level.

Basic School students in Grades 4 to 6 are required to write a 14-line poem (sonnet) on one of the following topics: human trafficking, cybercrime, or money laundering.

For students in Grades 7 to 9, the task is a 450-500 word essay on how social media exposure and the threat of cybercriminals can affect Ghanaian children.

Senior High School students have two essay topics to choose from, both requiring a minimum of 600 words. They can either discuss the impact of youth unemployment and organized crime in Ghana, or examine the effects of human trafficking on Ghanaian youth while proposing solutions to address the issue.

All entries should be submitted to the respective heads of schools for onward submission to the Schools and Instructions Division of GES in Accra.

Further, submissions must include the student’s name and contact information.

The deadline for submissions is Thursday, 14th November 2024, with attractive prizes such as cash, laptops, tablets, and souvenirs up for grabs.

The initiative is sponsored by the National Crime Agency (NCA) of the United Kingdom.
