The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has requested details from the Multimedia Group to support allegations of discrepancies in the payment of reintegration and transportation allowances to Ghanaian nationals evacuated from South Africa.
In a letter dated October 26, 2026, and addressed to the Chief Executive Officer of the Multimedia Group, the Ministry asked the media organisation to provide particulars of claims made by its Head of Research, Isaac Kofi Agyei, during Joy FM’s Newsfile programme on Saturday, October 24.
Mr Agyei reportedly alleged that some evacuees had not received the full allowances announced by the government, raising concerns about the disbursement process.
According to the Ministry, Mr Agyei stated during the programme that three evacuees had received only GH¢2,000 each instead of the total GH¢5,500 announced by the government as reintegration and transportation allowances.
He also alleged that approximately 40 evacuees had received the GH¢5,000 reintegration allowance but had not been paid the additional GH¢500 transportation allowance.
The Ministry further cited claims that some payments had been made without corresponding signatures from the beneficiaries, although the names of the affected individuals were reportedly associated with signatures in the Ministry’s payment records.
Describing the allegations as serious, the Ministry said they warranted a thorough investigation, particularly because they raised questions about the integrity of the disbursement process and could affect the reputation of the Ministry and the officers responsible for administering and supervising the payments.
The Ministry maintained that the allowances and integration packages had been publicly announced before the evacuation exercise began and that it had not received any complaints from evacuees regarding shortfalls in either allowance.
“The allowances and integration packages were publicly announced before the commencement of the evacuation exercise and, to date, [the Ministry] has not received any complaint from an evacuee regarding a shortfall in either allowance,” the letter stated.
It said the emergence of the allegations approximately five months after the exercise commenced required clarification and verification.
The Ministry also expressed concern that the media organisation had not contacted it to verify the claims following its interaction with the alleged affected evacuees.
To facilitate its investigation, the Ministry requested the names and contact details of the three evacuees who allegedly received GH¢2,000 instead of GH¢5,500, as well as those of the approximately 40 individuals who reportedly received the reintegration allowance without the transportation component.
It also requested the names and relevant particulars of evacuees alleged to have received payments without signing the corresponding acknowledgement records, whose names were subsequently associated with signatures in the Ministry’s records.
The Ministry said the information would enable it to contact the individuals concerned, obtain their accounts, examine the relevant payment and acknowledgement records, and investigate the allegations objectively.
“The requested information will enable the Ministry to engage the persons concerned, hear their accounts, examine the relevant payment and acknowledgement records, and investigate your media house’s allegations objectively,” the letter stated.
It further requested any additional details or supporting information in the possession of the media organisation that could assist the inquiry.
