Former First Lady Theresa Kufuor has died.

Mrs. Kufour, who has been away from the public spotlight for a long time, reportedly passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2023, after a brief meet-up with some family members at their residence in Peduase.

Theresa Kufuor, née Mensah, was the wife of John Agyekum Kufuor (2001–2009), the second President of the Fourth Republic of Ghana and First Lady of Ghana.

Theresa was born on October 25, 1935, and began her formal education at the Catholic Convent, OLA, in Keta, Ghana’s Volta Region.

Later, she relocated to London, where she attended the Southern Hospital Group of Nursing to receive her education as a registered general nurse. Edinburgh, Scotland

She obtained her Certificate in Premature Nursing and became a State Certified Midwife after doing additional coursework at the Radcliffe Infirmary in Oxford and Paddington General Hospital in London.

She was the brother of the late J. H. Mensah, a former parliamentarian and senior minister in the Kufuor administration.

She also founded the Mother and Child Community Development Foundation (MCCDF), a non-governmental organization operating in Ghana and Canada that supports work in the prevention of mother-to-child disease transmission.
