The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has dismissed two car park workers at the Accra International Airport for allegedly demanding money from travellers.
The action forms part of efforts by the airport operator to curb extortion and other forms of misconduct while improving the passenger experience at Ghana’s busiest international gateway.
GACL Managing Director, Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, disclosed this during a visit by Parliament’s Committee on Roads and Transportation to the airport on Tuesday.
She said the two workers were identified following repeated complaints from passengers and were immediately removed from the airport.
“Just about two weeks ago, we’ve had two people expelled from the airport in the car park workers who asked passengers for money,” Mrs Opare said.
She explained that the company acted swiftly after identifying the individuals involved.
“And instantly, because we were able to identify and zero in on the specific people, we were able to have them leave the airport immediately.”
Mrs Opare said GACL was determined to eliminate practices that undermine passenger confidence and compromise service standards at the airport.
She appealed to travellers and members of the public to report cases of extortion or inappropriate conduct by airport personnel to enable management to investigate and take appropriate disciplinary action.
“So we are asking the general public to help us address these issues.”
