The eight female students from Chiana Senior High School in the Upper East Region who allegedly insulted President Akufo-Addo have been expelled by the Ghana Education Service (GES).
The students had been suspended following initial interrogations prior to their dismissal.
The students were seen in a viral video launching verbal attacks on the president, purportedly over his administration—an action that has attracted widespread disapproval.
Following a two-month investigation, the GES confirmed the occurrence of the incident and described the students’ actions as unacceptable to the country’s educational system.
“The actions of the students were very undesirable and contrary to the acceptable standards of conduct generally required of any student in Ghana’s educational system.”
Meanwhile, the announcement of the dismissal by the GES has drawn several adverse reactions from the public and civil society, with many stating that the decision is too harsh and will not inure to the well-being of the students.
