President Akufo Addo has officially accepted the resignation of former Trade and Industry Minister Alan Kyerematen, according to a statement from the Presidency.
Per the statement, Mr. Kyerematen had spoken to the President on January 5 about his intention to exit his post and subsequently tendered his resignation.
The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has been asked to steer the affairs of the Trade Ministry until a substantive minister is appointed.
Mr. Kyerematen, popularly known as “Alan Cash,” bowed out of the government purportedly in a bid to concentrate on his plans of becoming the flagbearer of the NPP in the 2024 elections, having served as Minister since 2017.
The statement also thanked the 67-year-old and wished him well in his future endeavors.
Mr. Ofori-Atta’s additional appointment comes at a time when some Ghanaians have called for his head amid a turbulent economic situation.
The President had assured some members of his party who called for his sacking that he would relieve Mr. Ofori-Atta after the 2023 budget presentation and the IMF deal.
