The Ghana Health Service (GHS) is set to undertake two rounds of a nationwide Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination campaign in schools to protect eligible girls aged 9 to 14 against cervical cancer and other HPV-related diseases.
The exercise, being conducted in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES) through the School Health Education Programme (SHEP) and other partners, forms part of the Periodic Intensification of Routine Immunisation (PIRI).
According to a press release issued by the GHS on Monday, October 19, 2026, the first round will run from October 19 to 23, while the second round is scheduled for November 30 to December 4, 2026.
Health personnel will visit schools across the country to administer the HPV vaccine to eligible girls within the target age group who have not yet received it.
The campaign aims to raise awareness of the routine HPV vaccine, improve vaccination uptake and strengthen efforts to protect girls against cervical cancer and other diseases associated with HPV infection.
The GHS said the initiative was intended to strengthen routine immunisation efforts and increase protection against HPV-related diseases.
The Service has called on school authorities, parents, guardians, teachers and community leaders to support the exercise and cooperate with health teams to ensure its successful implementation.
“The Ghana Health Service respectfully calls on all stakeholders, including school authorities, parents, guardians, teachers, and community leaders, to support and cooperate with health teams to ensure the successful implementation of the exercise,” the statement said.
The GHS reiterated its commitment to protecting and promoting the health and well-being of Ghanaians, adding that it appreciated the continued collaboration and support of its partners and stakeholders in safeguarding children’s health.
