Accra today becomes the centre of the global financial markets industry as the 64th ACI World Congress officially opens in Ghana’s capital, bringing together financial market professionals, policymakers, central bankers, treasury dealers and industry leaders from more than 60 countries.

The two-day congress, running from May 21 to May 22, is being hosted by ACI Ghana – Financial Markets Association in partnership with the global ACI Financial Markets Association and the Bank of Ghana at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City Accra under the theme, “Accra 2026 – Elevating Markets, Empowering People.”

The event marks the return of the prestigious congress to Sub-Saharan Africa for the first time in nearly two decades, with Ghana becoming only the second African country to host the gathering.

Organisers say the event will place Ghana at the centre of international discussions on financial market development, innovation, regulation, digital transformation, cross-border investment flows and emerging opportunities within African financial markets.

The congress is expected to feature panel discussions, networking sessions and high-level engagements involving regulators, commercial banks, foreign exchange dealers and financial institutions from across the world.

Ghana secured the hosting rights in 2025 following what organisers described as a successful international bid led by ACI Ghana and stakeholders within the country’s financial services industry.

Speaking at the official launch earlier this year, First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Zakari Mumuni, described Ghana’s successful bid as a reflection of growing international confidence in the country’s financial system and its emergence as a credible financial hub within the region.

President of ACI Ghana – Financial Markets Association, Lawrence Osilaja Boampong, also said the congress presents an opportunity to showcase Ghana’s economic recovery efforts, deepen international partnerships and attract investor interest into Ghana and the wider African market.

The ACI World Congress is regarded as the flagship annual gathering of the global financial markets community, providing a platform for dialogue, collaboration and knowledge-sharing among policymakers and market participants worldwide.
