The Ghana Revenue Authority has identified and taken enforcement action against four companies operating in Accra and Tema for various tax compliance breaches, as part of an ongoing nationwide drive to improve revenue mobilisation and enforce tax laws.
According to enforcement officials, the affected firms were found to have engaged in a range of infractions, including failure to issue VAT invoices, under-declaration of tax liabilities, use of unauthorised invoicing systems, and failure to properly register and remit taxes due to the state.
The companies involved include a restaurant and a property management firm in East Legon, a manufacturing company producing roofing nails in Spintex, and a hardware trading business operating in Tema.
The businesses were sealed following audits and compliance checks conducted by GRA officials as part of intensified monitoring operations in the Greater Accra and Tema areas.
Officials said some of the companies had been issuing invoices without proper authorisation, while others had either failed to register for VAT or were issuing VAT invoices without being authorised to do so. In some cases, auditors also found evidence of selective invoicing and under-reporting of sales.
The GRA indicated that the enforcement action is part of a broader strategy to clamp down on tax evasion and ensure that all businesses operate within the country’s tax regulations. It stressed that maintaining accurate records and complying with invoicing requirements are legal obligations under Ghana’s tax laws.
Authorities warned that the affected companies will remain closed until they fully comply with tax requirements, including the submission of accurate sales records and settlement of outstanding liabilities. The GRA also cautioned that tampering with enforcement seals or obstructing investigations could attract severe penalties, including prosecution.
The Authority further appealed to the public to support its efforts by reporting suspected tax evasion and refusing to shield offenders, describing tax compliance as a shared responsibility critical to national development.
The enforcement exercise, officials added, will continue across Accra and other parts of the country as part of sustained efforts to broaden the tax base and improve compliance.
