Through the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has announced that the producer price of cocoa for the 2026 Light Crop Season will remain unchanged, despite a downward trend in global cocoa prices.
According to a press release issued by COCOBOD and signed by the Deputy Chief Executive in charge of Agronomy and Quality Control, Dr. Francis Baah, the decision is intended to provide stability for cocoa farmers ahead of the new season.
“The Government of Ghana, through the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), has announced that the producer price of cocoa for the 2026 Light Crop Season will remain unchanged despite declining global cocoa prices,” the statement said.
It added that purchases for the 2026 Light Crop Season will officially commence on Thursday, June 18, 2026, with Licensed Buying Companies (LBCs) expected to lead nationwide procurement activities.
Under the maintained pricing structure, the producer price remains at GH¢1,241.76 per load of 30 kilograms for Grade I and II cocoa beans. A 64-kilogram gross bag will continue to be purchased at GH¢2,587.00. This translates to GH¢41,392.00 per tonne of cocoa, equivalent to 16 bags.
COCOBOD noted that the decision reflects government’s commitment to safeguarding the livelihoods of cocoa farmers amid volatile international commodity markets.
“The decision underscores Government’s commitment to protecting the incomes and livelihoods of cocoa farmers, even as international cocoa prices experience a downward trend.”
“By maintaining the current producer price, Government aims to provide stability and confidence to farmers ahead of the new light crop season,” the statement said.
COCOBOD further explained that the announcement has been communicated to all key stakeholders in the cocoa value chain, including Licensed Buying Companies, COCOBOD management, relevant ministries, and other sector actors to ensure a smooth start to the purchasing season.
