The Government is set to address the nation today on the recent unfolding power crisis, popularly known as “dumsor,” affecting multiple areas nationwide.
In a social media announcement on Sunday, the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, noted that the address will provide critical updates on the situation and outline immediate and long-term measures being taken to stabilise electricity supply.
The announcement follows the recent fire outbreak at the Akosombo Power Control Centre, which has triggered widespread outages across parts of the country.
The planned national address comes in the wake of disruptions linked to the incident at Akosombo, a key facility in Ghana’s power transmission network. The outage has affected households, businesses, and essential services, heightening public concern over the reliability of the country’s energy infrastructure.
President John Mahama has indicated that the current power challenges are not a return of “dumsor,” but rather the result of ongoing upgrades of transformers across the country.
On Sunday, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) was asked to step aside pending investigations into the incident.
Additionally, the government has announced a leadership shake-up within the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the Ashanti Region.
