NPP running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has apologised for his recent remarks touting the achievements of President Akufo-Addo above Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
NAPO, as he is popularly called, said in a short statement on Friday, July 12, that he didn’t mean to denigrate Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, although it was his personal opinion.
He remarked at his unveiling on Tuesday that “Since independence from 1957 till today, we’ve not had any president that has helped Ghana like Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. I say from 1957 to now, if you take your Kwame Nkrumah, no one has become president who has protected Ghana and moved it forward like Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.”
He also said his comments did not mean to disrespect the former president, John Kufuor, whom he described as his mentor.
“The statement reflects my personal opinion about President Akufo-Addo’s impact relative to other presidents we have had.”
“I wish to emphasise that I never meant to disrespect our former President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, or any of our former heads of state, including my own grand uncle and mentor, Mr. John Agyekum Kufuor.
“I note the concerns raised after my statement. I apologise sincerely and regret any discomfort caused.
