Prof. Mrs. Angela Ofori-Atta, wife of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, has affirmed her husband’s readiness to engage with the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) as investigations into alleged corruption and procurement breaches continue.
Speaking in an interview on Accra-based Citi FM on Monday, June 16, Prof. Ofori-Atta stated that her husband had made efforts to cooperate with the OSP, including proposing to respond through legal counsel or via video link. These alternatives, she noted, are within legal bounds.
“He is ready to talk to the Special Prosecutor so that the Special Prosecutor can continue with his investigation,” she said during the interview. “First of all, he said you can ask my lawyers whatever questions you want to ask and I will respond through my lawyers and then secondly he has said if you would rather talk to me please let’s do the video. These are allowed by law so Kenneth is ready. The Lord did not give us a spirit of timidity but of courage, love and self-discipline. He has always been ready to talk about his work.”
Her comments follow a renewed demand by Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng for the former minister to appear in person for questioning, rejecting remote alternatives. Mr. Agyebeng has insisted that suspects in criminal investigations cannot dictate terms to law enforcement agencies, describing such conduct as unacceptable.
In a related development, Prof. Ofori-Atta confirmed that her husband recently underwent a surgical procedure for prostate cancer at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. She said the robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy was conducted on Friday, June 13, and lasted over four hours.
“The doctors are pleased with how the procedure went and will now place him on a postoperative regime,” she noted.
Reflecting on the timing of the OSP’s public alert, she described the period as particularly challenging for their family.
“Kenneth has always been resilient. But this has been very difficult; with the OSP choosing the period just before his surgery to declare a red alert on him,” she remarked.
Despite the pressure, she indicated that Mr. Ofori-Atta is recovering steadily and remains focused on his health. She also expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support they have received.
“Our family is truly grateful for the support and prayers of many people and pastors,” she said.
