Students of Labone Senior High School have emerged champions of the AIRTAD’26 Senior High School Robotics Competition, defeating the team from Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School in a highly competitive final.
The competition, organized by Implementers as part of the Annual Impact Roundtable Discussion (AIRTAD), was held from 26 to 27 February 2026 at the Cedi Conference Centre, University of Ghana.
The event brought together 15 of Ghana’s leading senior high schools, alongside Yamoransa Model Labs teams from Ghana, Liberia, and The Gambia, making it one of the most competitive robotics events for young innovators in the region.
The winning Labone SHS team consisted of Chima John, Abdul-Salim Muhammed, Cruz Oppong Boahene, and Eastwood Tetteh. The team was guided by their matron, Mrs. Harriet Klu-Jackson.
The students received robotics training and preparation from InovTech STEM Center, an innovation hub focused on equipping young people with practical skills in robotics, coding, artificial intelligence, and engineering. Over the years, InovTech STEM Center has trained thousands of students and teachers across Ghana in robotics, coding, and artificial intelligence, helping schools build competitive STEM teams and practical engineering skills.
Speaking after the victory, Jonathan Kennedy Sowah, Founder and CEO of InovTech STEM Center, said the achievement demonstrates the potential of Ghanaian students when they are given access to the right mentorship and tools.
“Ghanaian students are capable of competing at the highest level in robotics and engineering when they are properly equipped and guided.”
The victory by Labone SHS highlights the growing importance of robotics and engineering education in Ghana and the role of hands-on STEM training in preparing students for the future.
