The Lawra Municipality in the Upper West Region has been thrown into a state of mourning following the passing of its Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Alhaji Adam Muazu, barely three months after his official appointment.

Family members and close associates told to The Sikaman Times that Alhaji Muazu died at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra after battling a long-standing illness. He had been sworn into office in April 2025 but was unable to fully assume his duties due to his deteriorating health.

Relatives revealed that the late MCE had been unwell even before his appointment and had sought treatment at various health facilities nationwide. Despite his condition, he was confirmed as MCE by the Lawra Municipal Assembly on April 22, 2025, receiving 33 votes in favour and 8 against.

His last official appearance was during a visit by the Upper West Regional Security Council to express condolences to victims and families affected by a recent tragedy in the area.

Before entering public office, Alhaji Muazu was widely known and respected within the education sector. He served as the Upper West Regional Coordinator for Physical Education at the Ghana Education Service and had a long-standing career as a teacher.

An alumnus of Wa Senior High School and NJA College of Education, he later obtained a Master of Education in Administration and Supervision from the University of Cape Coast.

He also served as Communications Officer for his party in Lawra.
