President John Dramani Mahama has directed the leadership of the Majority Caucus in Parliament to immediately withdraw a Private Member’s Bill seeking to repeal the law establishing the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
The directive was communicated on Thursday through the President’s Spokesperson and Minister for Government Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
According to the Presidency, the decision aligns with President Mahama’s public assurance that his government remains committed to strengthening the anti-corruption mandate of the OSP. The President made that commitment during a meeting with the National Peace Council on Wednesday.
“The President has requested the Majority Leader and Majority Chief Whip to withdraw the Private Member’s Bill tabled for the repeal of the Act establishing the Office of the Special Prosecutor,” the statement said.
President Mahama further reiterated his call for the OSP to intensify its efforts in tackling corruption, restore public confidence, and execute its mandate with renewed vigour.
He emphasised that the Office remains “a vital cog in the fight against corruption” and must be empowered—not weakened—to deliver on the objectives for which it was created.
