Mallam, Kaneshie, Dansoman, others face temporary water supply cut – GWL

The Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has announced a temporary interruption in water supply to several communities in Western Accra following damage to a major transmission pipeline supplying the affected areas.

The disruption occurred after a 500-millimetre diameter main pipeline was damaged during excavation works being undertaken by AWERCO Construction Limited as part of construction of underground storm drains between Kaneshie First Light and Hansonic Junction.

According to GWL, the excavation resulted in a burst on the pipeline, causing water to flood the entire trench and disrupting supplies to communities connected to the affected line.

In a statement issued on Friday, August 28, 2026, GWL said its engineers and technical teams were working around the clock to restore supply.

“GWL engineers and technical teams are working around the clock and are currently dewatering the trench to gain access to the affected section of the pipeline,” the company said.

The affected communities include Mallam, Darkuman, Kaneshie, Mataheko, Korle Bu, Mamprobi, Dansoman Township, Chorkor and surrounding areas.

GWL said preparatory work on one end of the damaged pipeline had already begun as dewatering operations continued, paving the way for repairs to the affected section.

The company apologised to customers for the inconvenience caused by the disruption and assured them that efforts were being made to restore normal water supply as soon as possible.

“Every effort is being made to restore normal water supply as soon as possible,” GWL said, adding that further updates on the repair works and restoration of supply would be communicated through its official channels.

The temporary disruption is expected to affect households, businesses and institutions within the listed communities and surrounding areas until repair works are completed and the damaged transmission line is restored to service.
